And we've got here another review of Desire & Rage, this time at Sicmaggot server. You can read the review in this article or directly at Sicmaggot
Today’s on our review menu one home (I mean home band, not the alcohol /the favorite kind of rum in Czech Republic is called Home rum – note of translator/). If I guess right, it’s the first Czech review on our website. Into my hands came the most recent album from Warchild from Rakovnik (CZ) called "Desire & Rage", which is last year’s already, but with regard to the fact it was released in the fall of the year it’s still current. It is the second album from this band, but I didn’t hear the debut, so I’ll only evaluate what I’ve heard at. And my rating will be positive…
Warchild play such a mix of metal genres, which is hard to define. It’s the closest probably to black metal and thrash metal. With a little bit of death now and then. But it’s not important at all, important is, if it’s quality music or not. And as indicated in the first par, I personally have got no problem specifying the Warchild’s music as quality one. But it also has some flaws of course...
"Desire & Rage" contains some really excellent parts, fe. the beginning of "Old Man's Legend" or beginning of "Warrior" (just examples, there’s more of these moments on this album). Mostly the slower keyboard parts. I personally would like more such motives. The problem is they’re not very finished, or to be more precise – the rest of the song doesn’t connect to it as it should (I point out that this is just my personal opinion as I hear it and it also doesn’t stand for all the songs on the album). It’s nothing that would spoil the songs completely, but it’s a little annoying. I believe that Warchild have that force and will cope with that next time at next albums. It might easily happen that this band will in a few years, some 2 or 3 albums later, make such records that would induce envy even abroad. The potential is there, I’m not deaf so that I wouldn’t hear it. Warchild have good ideas, they just have to unfold them, finish them, and the knickers will shrink to all of us here hearing that. And you know what? I’m looking forward to that (I mean to what Warchild will thrash, not the shrinking of my ants :) and I hope it will happen.
For the best piece on "Desire & Rage" I take the last (not counting the bonus) "Revenge". I’ve got absolutely nothing to rebuke to this song. This is exactly how I imagine it should sound like. Great riffs, and that killer mid-tempo part in the end, it has no fault. And that solo, I’m dying for this. Hits like this should tear down hit parades.
So, when I sum it up, the album is above average for sure, I rate it positively with that, that it could be even better and with confidence, that it will be better next time for sure. It’s worth at least listening already now. I heartily recommend watching the videos included on CD.
